There are numerous proposals in Congress to reduce or even eliminate the charitable deduction used by millions of Americans when they give to charity.
Two-Day Campaign in Washington, D.C.
The two-day campaign called "Protect Giving-D.C. Days" is sponsored by a coalition of more than 50 organizations, including United Way, Salvation Army, and Catholic Charities. For those of us not congregating in Washington, D.C., it may behoove us to contact our representatives in Congress–and possibly ask key donors to do the same.

The United Way has a user-friendly site where you can send a pre-written email letter to your representatives (www.unitedway.org). But even better is an original personal note or a phone call. All U.S. Senators are listed at www.senate.gov, and members of the House of Representatives can be located by ZIP code at www.house.gov.
